Crimson Challenge

Harvard Crimson at Columbia Lions

Location: Robert K. Kraft Field at Wien Stadium

Kickoff Time: 1230pm

Game time Weather: 48 degrees, cloudy

TV/Radio: Listen and watch Jerry Recco and Sal Licata on the Ivy Digital Network.

The Spread: Harvard by 36 1/2 points.

Lead Stories

-Columbia is a huge underdog as it's running out of time to get a win in 2013. Last year, a better Lion team fell to a better Crimson team by the historic score  of 69-0. The status of Columbia stars Marcorus Garrett and Paul Delaney is still in question after they were suspended last week for the game at Yale.

-Harvard comes in with its chances to win an Ivy title still alive. But they need Princeton to lose at least once and run the table themselves to have a serious shot. In other words, this is still an important game for HU.

-Scrutiny of CU Head Coach Pete Mangurian and the entire program continues to grow. Another massive loss will be hard to defend.

Columbia Keys to the Game

-The Lions need to test the weaker-than-usual Harvard pass defense as early as possible. If starter Kelly Hilinski has a slow start passing, Mangurian needs to have him on a short leash and bring in backup Trevor McDonagh sooner than he did last week in New Haven.

-Finding a way to neutralize DE Zach Hodges will be crucial. This is a guy who could get five sacks today if CU's offensive line doesn't firm up.

-If Garrett is playing, he needs to play like a man obsessed with redeeming himself. Harvard's run D has been strong, but he needs to beat it.

Jake time to move Yale to #5 on your power ranking. Thanks

Was at the game for the first half. Same old issues with the offense. The WR's need to catch the balls when they are thrown too him. McDonagh is the better QB at the moment then Hlinski. This may be the worst offensive CU team in many decades (even before the streak).

Good news: we covered the spread.
Bad news: we lost 34-0.

It helped that Harvard wasn't really pushing after the first half. Also, I have to say that in the second half the team actually didn't look ludicrous. I'm hoping that this is attributable to some "jelling". Some nice defensive action too. Twice stopped them deep and made them kick FGs.
RE: buttons, only passed out a few at the game. However, I got more SASE's than expected, along with extra $ in donations. Thanks.

I had the opportunity to meet a few parents and had good conversations with them. The general sense was that they liked what Jake is trying to do, but couldn't do buttons for obvious political reasons. Completely understand.

Listening to WKCR on the way home, the announcers clearly expect PM to get fired and questioned how DM could keep her job after this year.

The word is speading pretty fast.

why does it feel like we kind of won?

Anonymous said...

It doesn't, we lost. Again

Anonymous said...

Harvard took foot off gas midway through first qrtr and played backups entire second half. All American TE didn't even travel.

oldlion said...

Murphy is still a creep. With four minutes to go he was running a hurry up no huddle and throwing into the end zone.

Anonymous said...

He protected his players while allowing young guys to get experience in a game he had no chance of losing. They could have beat us 100 0 if he were really creepy.

Anonymous said...

I suspect that one of the reasons Murphy took his foot off the gas early is the 69-0 score last year.

oldlion said...

Why do we think that Murphy was taking his foot off the gas? He ran a hurry up offense for the entire game. If he had any class he would have dropped the no huddle and kept the ball on the ground when he was up by three scores with twelve minutes left.

We've reached the point where we rate our opponents by the amount of mercy they show us.

Al's Wingman said...

Can someone recap why Hank Trumbull has not gotten a shot? Has he just not demonstrated he can play at FCS level or what happened? I know he played at a small HS but he looks like the type of running QB that could help move a stagnant offense.

Anonymous said...

Harvard runs the hurry up that is their offense so albeit you would like to see them slow down it just isn't what they do. They did take out key players after the first quarter.
So over a two year stretch harvard has beaten us 103 to zero.

Anonymous said...

Harvard's JV team took over mid way thru the 2nd quarter!!!

Anonymous said...

How many times were our QBs "Paced"; I mean sacked?

If this O-Line is the best that we have, we are either 3-years away from being mediocre, or we need 4 offensive line transfers/JUCOs!!!

Toal for head coach. And for all the doubting Thomases just read the NY Times from a couple of days ago about the Baylor football coach who was a high school coach not so long ago.
Toal will not only reverse the losing ways he will bring an Ivy League Championship to Baker Field. Plus he said it would be an honor to coach at Columbia.
Bold decisions result in great outcomes sometimes. It is time for a bold decision on a new head football coach!

Anonymous said...

You don't need new lineman. You need your coach to let them be lineman and not keep them around 250 lbs. They need to be trained like lineman. Columbia is the only school who uses this approach and they are they worst o-line in the ivy league. I wonder why.

Anonymous said...

The chatter has died down from prior weeks. I believe this is where the reality of the demise and lost season startt to take there toll on the fans. We always wish for the great success and are met with great defeat..reminiscent of the chicago cubs.

Pathetic How can any AD of any school see this and not realize the coach must go. This bum must be fired a minute after the brown game is over. This is the WORST TEAM IN THE PATHETIC HISTORY OF CU FOOTBALL!!! Bring back Naso

Hugh Freeze, the second-year head coach at Ole Miss who has them playing better than at any time since Archie Manning was quarterback, was a high school coach not too long ago.

As readers of "The Blind Side" know, Ole Miss hired Freeze as an assistant in large part so that his prize left tackle Michael Oher would enroll at Ole Miss.

I cannot fathom any other outcome than Pete getting fired at season's end. Aside from the criticism spewed here, the evidence is plain for everyone to see. It's painfully obvious. If no action is taken then it will even be more painfully obvious the problem is a very insidious political alliance between Murphy and Pete that has nothing at all do with football and everything to do with peer loyalty.

Harvard's coach Murphy was reprimanded by the AD last year for running up the score against Columbia.
After fourteen points he took out RB Stanton. He was the second string RB last year that shredded us. We cannot match up with his speed at all. He was playing at a whole different level than the other players on the field.
Harvard was only half trying. It has gotten that bad.

Anonymous said...

Please explain to me something.....
We entered that game as 36.5 point underdogs. I would think PM would want to stay in the game as long as possible.
We won the opening toss. Columbia deferred. Harvard took the ball and WE decided to FACE the wind?????
What was PM thinking???? With the wind their PK kicked it 7 yards deep in the end zone. Against the wind he kicked it to the 15 yard line. It was about a 30 yard difference in field position.
Guess how many possessions Harvard had in the first quarter? FIVE!!!! As 36.5 point underdogs how did we have a chance with that burden. It was an awful coaching decision. It may have cost us 150 yards of field position right off the start.
No coach with common sense ever gives up the ball and the wind to start a game. What is taking place down on the sidelines??? Incompetence.

One positive, "changes also need to come from him" WELL?? WELL? Change your mailing and work address, that would be a great change!!!!

A majority of players want the coach and staff fired. Please don't start interrogating me as to how I can post that. It is a fact. How can this continue. How can you recruit and build? It is a no win situation for Columbia. If the AD doesn't step up strong and fast the President must. Jake didn't start this. The points for points against started this. The win loss record started this. It was predictable. These are not uneducated young men in a developmental league with NFL aspirations. These are the last of the scholar athletes. The strength of ivy football is the bond and lifelong friendship and relationships amongst the players. This coaching staff has destroyed that. As a last act of desperation they are actually telling recruits "these guys are bad" and "these are our guys". This is unprecedented and pathetic. The university needs to step up.

Yeah, we tied Harvard in the 3rd qtr.--- winning!!! Keep Pete on for 2 more years!!!

Jake said...

Very rarely do we find such 100% complicity in a failure.

We know who is responsible for this.

Dianne was the only one pushing for Pete; she won over everyone else and got them to go along.

Our shocking slide is 100% the result of Pete's crazy idea to go with 250 lb linemen. This isn't about bad luck or Columbia's long history of futility. It's on Dianne for hiring the really wrong guy and on Pete for a stunningly wrongheaded strategy.

Anonymous said...

Money had better not be an issue for the University/Athletic Administration when it comes to firing Pete! Look how much they raised over the past two years on GIVING day!

Anonymous said...

Can we have another statistical update where we stand, per measurable statistic, from an FSB standpoint?

Anonymous said...

Honestly, all 3 QBs are good players. Put yourself in their place. Why would you come back to play for PM?How can they compete when they have no one to throw to and are in perilous danger from the backside in particular and line in general? Trevor played a great game yesterday. But how can you compete with all the dropped passes and the blind side hits?
OK, the top two receivers Nelligan and Connors have been hurt most of the season. Wanamacher, Gross, and DiNovo all departed in different capacities because they were told they wouldn't play.
Flannery, the only 100+ yard game receiver has hung in there but he seldom sees any time. Captain Hamilton Garner only saw about 10 plays yesterday.
What's left #13, #15. Just not ready. How does a QB get better under those conditions?
Trevor stayed in the pocket and took some man size hits yesterday. How can he improve with the lack of confidence he can throw safely?
There is talent here. Just not enough that you can waste it. Why not platoon the upperclassmen with underclass men? Wannamacher, Gross, DiNovo, and Flannery would have made a big difference this season.

Anonymous said...

Opponents 330, Columbia 57. That pretty much says it all!

oldlion said...

Dianne just has to be fired if she doesn't have the decency to resign. This disaster is on her. She is not competent to hire a coach. And what HC would want to report to her? Do you remember the way she undercut Norries during his first season when he stood up for his guys at Penn? But blogging here will not do it. Some group of adults needs to go to Bollinger and demand change so that Dianne is fired, Ray is made acting AD until we hire somebody on a permanent basis, and we go out and hire the Princeton OC before somebody else does.

Jake said...

Old Lion may be right. And that speaks volumes. Despite this historically awful season, it will probably take a large face-to-face confrontation with Bollinger to get the obvious glaring need taken care of: firing Murphy and Mangurian.

Lets cut to the chase and stop being in denial, this was a big mistake in hiring Mangaurin. His philosphy and system is not working.
The administration has a fiduciary duty to the university, fans, alumni, and most importantly to the players who bust their butt everyday.
Plain and simple fire this guy!

Just so you all understand that we aren't "preaching to the choir" here and merely doing a mutually supporting group vent, you should know that there are a great many interested people reading this who do not post. That includes many in the administration, and this is partly for them.

To that end I direct the following comments. These aren't meant to be simplistic, just to put things in an understandable, basic and non-emotional context:

When a new manager (business/sports/military) takes over a group, he/she first must analyze the resources available and determine the best way to extract max performance. As time proceeds, the mgr adds what he can of his own choice to the mix, gets the entire group on the new program, and then begins to figure out who is fitting in and who isn't. But the mgr never does a clean sweep from the get-go. It appears from available info that PM has. It appears this isn't working.

I must also question the coaching capabilities of the entire staff. I have witnessed numerous technique errors on defense and offense which were at the HS level. That is coaching, plain and simple.

Changing a HC and staff is scratching the surface. My intention here was never to go after PM specifically; it is to address the source. Frankly, the source is in Low Library, but that is way too far up the food chain to think about right now. However, we can certainly make enough noise to divert Lee from his obsession with political correctness in order to pay attention to the shambles which is the AD. Unless we become too loud and painful for him to ignore, nothing will happen. I promise.

Dianne Murphy is the underlying cause which must be addressed. I have described before in simple statistics her abject overall failure. Here it is again, in abbreviated form.

Last 5 years = 1.6 Ivy titles per year, out of 36 available per year. If life were fair, we'd average 4.5

This compares to the historic average of 1.56/yr we've achieved since 1957. In other words, no improvement. So where does the money go? More importantly, where is the accountability for lack of improvement? Again, this isn't personal; it's business. We aren't getting our money's worth, regardless of whether she is a "fund raiser" or Lee's poster child for diversity.

Finally, with the incredible kids who come here, the great facilities and the care and funding so many alumni provide, why do we get the feeling that sports is still a necessary evil here? It produces some of the strongest, loyal and generous alumni, and it engenders enthusiasm and spirit among the students.

Be aware that there is much conversation taking place at levels and among groups which do have access to decision/policy making regarding this issue. But the wider and louder and more diverse the chorus becomes, the greater our chances of implementing institutional change. Because this isn't just about a football coach.

As a parent of an upperclassman player I weighed my son’s request to stay off this blog but it is so bad I have to post. Bottom line is all the negatives about the treatment of the old players are true. The new guys know they were thrown into the bigger and faster blender way too soon. Mangurain is a troubled personality with a temper to match. He does not have the respect of his players but enjoys some of them fearing him because he is in control of their playing time. All of the players know only the best performers should be on the field. They also know fairness should be a factor but the real goal is a winning team. That my friends is the problem.

Mangurian created a complete divide day one and there is no longer any sharing between the players. The newer players do not want to be associated with the experienced losers that Mangurian identified. Good sense would tell you that experience counts for something but not in Mangurian land – he knows all. However, what he does not know is what one poster here said: Ivy players are different. They form bonds and associations that last lifetimes. They become best men, godparents, business associates, partners, mentors, pallbearers to each other. They quite simply, share with each other.

Mangurian does not get it. Too bad because he cheated himself out of camaraderie, some victories, some close losses, some respect, some gratitude, and a few ‘sons’ who learned from “Coach”.

As Lions do we really think we should win every game? Do we want to throw away what makes Ivy League men for a winning season? Or, do we want to share the ups and downs, the good and the bad, but in a fair and decent way? Anybody selling those buttons?

oldlion said...

To the parent: while my conclusion that Pete has to go is unshakeable, I still count a number of junior and senior players who are starters on both sides of the ball. Thus my bewilderment about the divide between the younger and older players.

Anonymous said...

I highly doubt that is a parent. The lengths you guys will go to to sabotage this team is unbelievable.

I just posted this on his facebook page: Pete, you need to resign immediately. What you have done to Columbia football is truly a disgrace to the coaching profession. You have alienated the players, their families and alumni. You have demonstrated that arrogance and incompetence along with your politically-induced appointment is what defines you. Leave now and do not accept a cent of payout because you do not deserve it. LEAVE.

Anonymous said...

Murphy is beyond caring now. She's putting herself front and center taking credit for a men's doubles team winning at the National Indoor Tourney. Very impressive or those young men and not surprising Murphy would put herself into the photo. No other AD would do that. So, now she's moved from football to her new WBB coach and any sports that have success (because she ignores them the rest of the year but she'll never let people know that) and that will be her justification for staying.

Anonymous said...

You can doubt all you want but I am a parent and a concerned one. Trust me I am not writing as sour grapes for not playing enough juniors or seniors. Columbia was chosen over other schools because it had the best promise of a great future for our son. Football is football, nothing more and the allusion of an NFL career was never there. Because my son (like most of the sons of the many parents here on the blog) loved the camaraderie of a team, football served as a small tool in helping him finding his way into becoming a productive member of society. I think in his heart he would like to be on a team that wins more but the loss of the team spirit is what bothers him. As one of his friends said, "the WHOLE team was a lot tighter when we were losing under Coach Wilson."

So in response to oldlion, the divide is there. While giving up on each other should never happen, Mangurian is the one who led that charge. His mantra is water the bamboo (yes, stolen from a true coach) and these guys are bright enough to realize the undertone.

Too bad Mangurian lacked the wisdom to see that he could have watered the bamboo by placing 'his' guys on a JV and then gone through the motions with the holdovers during his honeymoon. Then come 'put up or shut up' time, his magnificent creation would have been a tight-knit winning team as proof he was the answer. I don't think he is but in fairness, I met him once and can't offer an opinion because he was that unremarkable.

You do not represent the parents ,players or administration of Columbia football or the university. Your attacks on the coach and AD are unprofessional, personal ,and truly classless.

Dear "parent"

No one cares if you are the parent of Siamese Triplets. After this May, you'll never be involved again. Maybe your son will, but not you.

Where has anyone here insulted the TEAM??? It certainly isn't their fault. Where has anyone LIED??? Everything I post is backed with stats provided by CU. Anything else is an opinion. So where are the lies?
You accuse us of being anonymous?? My name is posted every time, as is Jake's. That leaves the Wingman, who at least uses a nickname. But how about you, gutless hypocrite? I see you signed in as "ANONYMOUS". That really bolsters your cred.

You strike me as the kind of person that is so afraid to question the emperor that you refuse to acknowledge he is streaking the stadium.

Now, here's the deal. We didn't "lie" to families, recruits and players. I believe most would agree the coaching staff did. We are just calling them out.

Our "attacks" are not personal or unprofessional; they are thought out, considered, and backed with empirical data. The only issue is that you apparently do not agree. As for "classless", I submit that your reaction here is the classless portion of the string.

Things are going to change. There has never, in my 50 years of Columbia life, been such a rejection of a policy and a program. We need ALL of you who support this to make as much noise as you can. We WILL make things better for our athletes.

Jake said...

It speaks volumes that the people who attack me and now Rich, etc, here or on VOY never even come close to identifying themselves. So, there's really no reason to listen to any of it and I'll take their commenting as a tacit "thank you" from them for their de facto support if this blog by the fact that they obviously visit and visit often. Their anger makes this all relevant. I'll know we're really in trouble when we call for firings and big changes and nobody cares.

i too will stand anonymous behind my son because i don't want him sitting in the stands. the majority of the posts are frustrations against the system not the players. the same system that hired this coach, the one before him, the one before him and so on. the common denominator is not the players who arrive each year. as fans we are mad and as parents we are sad. a lot of effort goes into being a player and all they ask for is a system that supports them in trying to get some wins. so cheers to you who might be in a position to bring about change. i am sorry but the best i can offer is to go hoarse from cheering these boys on.

When my son joined this team, he was taken under the wing of the upper class men at his position. They mentored him in football, campus life, and academics. They didn't win many games but he LOVED everything about the experience. Since PM arrived it has been one miserable experience. There has been a wedge thrust between "our guys" and the old guys and much of the team spirit is gone between classes. I recognize that blowing up the old losing ways may be necessary to affect change, but for 500k a year you should be able to find a charismatic team builder who can do it artfully without making scapegoats and victims out of great young men who just want to play for each other and for their team.......and win games.

Al's Wingman said...

Very amusing rebuttal by the so-called parent. You are just miffed that your son's experience is tarnished by bad politics. That is what this all comes down to. There is no justification for what Pete Mangurian has done to the CU football program. The EVIDENCE is there for the anyone to see, even people who don't follow ivy league football. Even the CU administration in their blindness are surely even more embarrassed now than during the endless losing streak.

Anonymous said...

Wingman, you are right, I do care about my son and I'm glad his experience and my concerns amuse you. I recognize the difference between short term fans and long term fans and the fall on your sword attitude that if you didn't play then you don't know. This I do know, the team is dysfunctional, they are not competitive and many are miserable. This rests on the shoulders of the HC It didn't have to go down this way. It's hard enough being a student athlete at CU. What's going on now is cruel and unusual.

Al's Wingman said...

I could not agree more. It is unfair to the players. That is what makes this situation outrageous. Not all criticism (mine included) puts a disclaimer that the disdain is coming from a perspective of "this is bad for everybody." Often, the fan's voice is construed as selfish. I will go on a limb and speak for EVERYONE - Pete has to go because he has done nothing right at CU.

Anonymous said...

It is very easy to see who is correct. Let's have DM and her staff interview the players about what has transpired. I have certain confidence in the outcome of the interviews. I have not met one family of support for the coach. As a matter of fact he has destroyed the family involvement and player appreciation. Examples:
1) Seniors no longer get the awesome Columbia tradition of framed jerseys. Nothing to place in the old corner office to conjure up stories about dear old Columbia and what a great place it was. May even stir up fond memories and a few sheckles to support the football program.
2) Removed the parent liaison to the team. No merging the families about tailgating, tent functions, meet up locations, explaining to new families about Columbia traditions.
3) Removed Father V two days before the season. Boy, the players could use a little help with perspective and meaning this season. Maybe it is a contributing factor to senior players losing focus and getting suspended.
4) No coaches letter to parents about what, where, and when. No communication.
5) No player pictures that Moms love to purchase of game action.
6) Players not allowed to dress or participate on the sideline.
I guarantee this will lead to the "old days" real soon. Just a short time ago players were accepted to Columbia for football. After admission and feeling separation from the team they quit. Essentially, accepting false admission for football and gaining access to the University.
There is more.....
The University is the big loser here in the long run.

Hope this is from a very small portion of team and unacceptable to any parent.

To "real parent of a starter and "When my son joined this team, he was taken under the wing of the upper class men at his position." previously posted.

Your two posts are heartfelt and sincerely understood. This is what it's all about. This is the historic Columbia team experience; creating long-term friendships and helping each other. It certainly isn't about undefeated teams.
My closest friends today come from my Columbia teammates. They are former trustees, major contributors, and well known leaders of Corporate and educational USA. Mainly they are good people who have accomplished good things in their lives and who care about Columbia. This is what your sons have to look forward to, and it's pretty wonderful.

This year is an anomaly. I seriously believe it will be corrected. I certainly intend to do what I can to that end. I like your ideas as stated, and I think there will soon be an opportunity for our athletes to voice their feelings in a secure environment.

What we finally have to get back to is a true "TEAM" concept, where playing is fun and the guys look forward to practices and games. (Not that any of us ever liked practice) But that experience is incredible under the correct circumstances.

These posts aren't useless. More people than you know are reading them. I've been getting emails and phone calls for the past few weeks since I started posting suppporting a change and asking how to help. We just need to keep things from being personal and focus on the big issues.

Stay tuned.......

Look, you guys want to help these student athletes, use your funds to make sure these seniors and juniors receive their framed jerseys. They were recruited with this proud tradition in place as the final honor for 4 years of busting hump at practice and carrying an academic load of equal difficulty. They recognized winning is and would be difficult, but the experience would be worth it since the players clearly loved each other as brothers. That is what that framed jersey means: dedication toward a team goal, being there for your brothers, sticking it through to the end and finally recognizing they are better men for the experience. Your buttons and stickers and angry posts will not impact those young men that lost knees or ankles, suffered concussions or injured their backs for your beloved CU. Take that money or start a fund and make sure these players get those framed jerseys. Preserve one of the few remaining traditions that can still be saved rather than waste it on meaningless gestures.

It's too bad the CU football team can't be bought like a corporate acquisition. I would buy them and re-locate the "franchise" to silicon valley.

Dear Parent who stated "Look, you guys want to help these student athletes, use your funds to make sure these seniors and juniors receive their framed jerseys."

What are you talking about? We have never heard anything of the sorts - so are you an AD troll just trying to make the coaching staff look bad and save your job?

Also, if you are truly a parent you would know the following:

"2) Removed the parent liaison to the team. No merging the families about tailgating, tent functions, meet up locations, explaining to new families about Columbia traditions."

I have spoken to the parent who previously ran this and is no longer able to - have you contacted the staff? I'm pretty sure a current parent is trying to remedy this but reach out nonetheless.

"4) No coaches letter to parents about what, where, and when. No communication."

I have received communication every week for my son, inviting me to the pre game dinner with the team, etc.

"5) No player pictures that Moms love to purchase of game action."

Check the NCAA new rules. It is no longer allowed - all ivys have suspended their "photo store"

"6) Players not allowed to dress or participate on the sideline."

All players were dressed this Saturday, including my own. Unless your son is among those who have violated team rules you, again, are just creating false rumors.

As I suspect, you are not a parent of a player. Just another Jake troll on this blog trying to hurt this program. Please stop with the lies. My son busts his ass just as much as his teammates and doesn't deserve to think his "brothers" and their families are liars.

If all this is true, it should be known. If only some is true, that also should be known. The important thing is that everyone have the same accurate info so they can form opinions on facts, not rumors. I would hope Jake's blog could be a vehicle for that.

So why don't we verify this, if only to know accurate info. It doesn't affect the larger situation, but it would be good for all of us to be on the same page.

To the above poster. I find it interesting that you claim to be a parent but you have detailed knowledge of NCAA rules on obscure items such as player photos. How interesting that as a parent you are so knowledgeable about NCAA rules and "Ivy League" policy on player photos.
Conversely, the poster you responded to only had knowledge of information that only a parent could know. Such as parent communication, parent liaisons, failure to award player jerseys, "Mom" photos.
You are on the coaching staff......

You guys are ridiculous. I state the FACTS and you try to negate them by claiming I must be apart of the staff? (Also, thank you Rich for not accusing me of such)

I know rules because I, unlike you, have called to complain about the "mom photos" and I'm relaying what I was told. Same goes for parent communication (which I receive.) You want to question me? I will be happy to meet you in Ithaca.

FYI I have a CA IP address. Just stop with the lies and rumors.

Fact: there has been no parent communication from coach. It is a lie.
Secondly, what parent would complain about getting mom photos? Weird......

Fact: If you count parent communication as more than 20 emails, then yes, you are right.
Fact 2: YOU just complained about not getting mom photos - except I actually asked about it instead of whining on this blog. No parent would go after another, either.

Just a thought, folks. Maybe there's a simple lack of info, and if this is fixed, a lot of recriminations could stop.

Does anyone have a contact # to share for requesting parent team communications?

Ditto framed jerseys; is there any formal message on this from the admin?

I'm prety sure I saw Garret on the sidelines for Harvard, wearing civvies.

Rumors are divisive and we don't need that. Let's get the truth.

the truth is money talks. So unless there are financial, bad PR- perception issues affecting the university then the decision makers focus their time and resources on other issues. King Pete needs to be de- throned. Bring in a coach who people respect. Losing/ rebuilding is tolerable when the people running the show are genuine in their purpose and 24 know what direction they are going. I remember when Fordham was perpetually bad. Boy did they turn that around.

paying for a framed jersey? when i graduated we got a fake jersey and a watch that can be bought out of an airplane magazine. there was no frame no real jersey. if we left with a tshirt from the football team we were charged for it. our cleats had been used year after year; never new.
none of these things would i complain about nor would i care about. did my parents care? i dont know; i banned my mother from all games and my father certainly didnt care about cleats or framed jersey's.
the privelage of playing was enough.

As far as parent communication....as a parent of a junior player, I have never received any letter regarding the team dinners but I do know when we were out to a game a few weeks back the parents of a freshman had been at the dinner the night before. They had received a letter or somehow their son got them in there. I think they only allow a few parents in to those dinners each week. I have no clue how the whole thing works.

A parent liaison like in years past would have been really nice this season as many of us travel from out of town and would like to meet other parents. The name tags we received in years past were really nice as well. With those you could identify other player parents. They had your name, your sons name, number and position.

I know my son would have talked to Father V especially this year.

And it was disappointing not to be able to get any pictures of the boys or a team picture. I even wanted the picture from the roster. Nice to see them in a suit.

There were definite changes from a parent perspective. Disappointing!

I too am a football parent. Information about family members being able to participate in team dinners was shared by PM at the pre-season parent meeting held on move-in day in August. It was also included in the team booklet that each family received. We were told that up to 25 family members of the players would be able to join the team if they wished, and the process for signing up was covered as well. No mystery about the process. It was all rolled out.

I don't know anything about "mom photos". I take my own pictures.
