Back to the Killing Fields

Columbia Lions (2-1) at Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (1-3)

October 9, 2021

Game Time Weather Forecast: 62 degrees and cloudy

The Line: Columbia is favored by 16 points

TV/Radio: The game will be streamed on NEC Front Row and there will be a Columbia live audio broadcast here

Leading Storylines

1) The last time the Lions visited Arute Field in 2018, it must have felt more like Omaha Beach. Columbia won, but came away with several key injuries that plagued the team for the next two seasons. Going back there is a big part of the story for the Lions as they hope to finish up their non-conference schedule with a perfect 3-0 record and without injuries. This will be CCSU's homecoming game, which could play an emotional role.

2) CCSU has played two weak teams, in Southern Connecticut and Wagner, and two much stronger teams in Miami and Southeastern Louisiana. They have only managed to eke out one win at Wagner, which came when the Seahawks failed on a two-point conversion at the end of the game. There is still some mystery about just how good or bad the Blue Devils are, as 69-0 losses to Miami in South Florida are to be expected for any FCS team.

3) Focusing on the stats, it looks like CCSU has had some trouble defensively even in the games against SoConn and Wagner. But they do have a QB who can run and pass and will be a real test for the Lion defense.

Columbia Players to Watch

1) RB's Ryan Young and Dante Miller

After being mostly bottled up by Princeton's impressive defense, Columbia's top RB's will need to bounce back.

2) WR Mike Roussos

Roussos was contained in his first game this season at Princeton Stadium. He needs to give Lion QB Joe Green more options Saturday.

3) LB Justin Woodley

It will probably be Woodley who draws the job of containing CCSU QB and dual threat Romelo Williams.
