Billy Ragone
You know that guy in your class when you were a kid who goofed off all the time, studied just the last minutes before a test and was still an A student?
Didn't you just hate that guy?
It's almost like that was the guy Penn QB Billy Ragone was being last year when he started slowly, and then suddenly came to life in crucial moments in key game after key game.
As a result, the player who I thought was the real Ivy MVP last season did not put up the most impressive stats as a passer on 3rd downs in 2012.
On 3rd down, Ragone was 24 of 53 for a .452 completion percentage.
Those passes went for 311 yards for 5.8 yards per attempt.
22 passes went for 1st downs, a .415 success rate.
Four 3rd down passes went for TD's, two were intercepted and Ragone was sacked on 3rd down five times for 34 yards lost.
The four TD stat was impressive, but I hate to admit that my devotion to 3rd down passing figures is challenged by Ragone and his penchant for making big plays sometimes after making a few duds.

Moment #80: Garrett's First Big Run
Midway through the week 2 game against Fordham, the Lions took over their own 24 with about seven minutes left in the 2nd quarter and still trailing, 14-10.
On 3rd and two from their 32, Columbia's RB Marcorus Garrett broke off one of his best runs of 2012. He took off down the west sideline toward the south end zone and looked for a moment like he would take it all the way for a 68-yard TD.
But the Rams Ian Williams tracked him down and tackled him at the Fordham four making it just a 64 yard run.
The play was eerily reminiscent of a play in 2009, when Leon Ivery '10 ripped off a 75-yard run down the same sideline, going in the same direction, only to be caught from behind and tackled at the four.
Sadly for the Lions, history was about to repeat itself in another way.

I;ve followed the ESPN recruiting website for a couple of years ... seems to me that (on paper), Harvard has the best recruiting program for getting talented players .... yes, I know that Penn wins titles, but Harvard's amassing of bodies is impressive .... I liked Coach M's first to classes of recruits, and believe we will do even better if we can produce wins .... but the team that looks like they are stepping up to challenge Harvard in the recruiting wars is Yale ... they brought in Varga who is clearly one of the top RBs in the East ... and they brought in that stud LB from CA (Egu) ... they just mentioned that they have 2 of GA's top 10 WRs unterested in going to Yale .... interest is one thing, but only time will tell if they turn down Div IA offers to attend Yale ... but clearly, Reno is making a charge at talent ...
Has Ragone recovered from that broken ankle?
