Felkins set to start for PSU

Jordan Colbert

Columbia has been a lot more fortunate than some other Ivy League teams when it comes to taking key roster losses to the transfer portal, (Dartmouth and Princeton being the two programs most affected this year).

The most significant transfer portal loss for the Lions has been DB Jordan Colbert, who went to Rhode Island last year and put up stellar numbers for the Rams. Colbert returns for one more year at URI this fall and he made seven total tackles and got a pass breakup in a tough 42-35 loss at Georgia State last night.

It's important to note that Colbert was a grad transfer to URI and still has a Columbia degree. He had two years of NCAA eligibility left when he transferred, but could have only played one more year in the Ivies.

Alex Felkins

But another grad transfer from Columbia seems poised to make a name for himself on a major national stage this weekend.

PK Alex Felkins is now projected to have won the preseason battle for the starting kicker position at Penn State. The Nittany Lions begin their 2023 campaign ranked #7 in the country. They kick their season off tomorrow night at home vs. West Virginia. We certainly wish him and Colbert well this season.

Many Columbia Football alums have predicted thru the years that Alex Felkins "will be playing on Sunday." Our own Ted Gregory said just that on a tv broadcast of a Columbia Game last year. Felkins had a great career at Columbia and everyone wishes him the best at Penn State and then on many Sundays thereafter.
