Des Werthman in high school
Incoming Columbia Athletics Hall of Famer Des Werthman '94 offers this advice to the players heading to football training camp in just 43 days:
"It is all psychological. If you can manipulate your brain it will not be hard.
The only other piece of advice I would offer, (and I fell victim to this early on), is that regardless of how much older others are, that doesn’t mean they are better than you or stronger than you.
Forget about being the newbie and just focus on playing the game. If I knew then what I know now I would have been a starter from day one. It is all about believing in one’s abilities."
