Who's Coming Back?

Joshua Martin is one of Columbia's most important returning players

The number of returning veterans a team has is always an important statistic to at least consider going into a new season.

With that in mind, the "Keepers Football" site lists the percentage of returning players for each FCS team based on statistical contributions.

It's not always a strong measure of how a team will perform in a current season, but it's an interesting factor.

As Lions fans already know, our most severe statistical losses come from our WR and DB corps.

But in the QB and defensive line areas, Columbia rates pretty well when it comes to returning impact veterans.

With the exception of Austin Knowlin and Mike Stevens, Columbia's wide receivers didn't do very much the last 5-6 years. That situation is likely to change almost immediately with an outstanding wide receivers coach and very talented group of incoming freshman.

Some of the players have told me that Connor Nelligan is very talented and will be an outstanding WR. What I have noticed is that we have not had somebody who can get separation from the DBs. That is an issue which must be addressed.
