The Columbia Spectator reports that star basketball forward Alex Rosenberg has left school, most likely due to his foot injury and in the hopes of playing a 5th year in 2016.
That takes the air out of what looked like a very promising basketball season ahead for the Lions.
But Rosenberg's plan may make a lot of sense in the long run.
The only other impact seniors currently on the team are Center Cory Osetkowski and Guard Steve Frankowski.
The other key players like Maodo Lo and Grant Mullins are juniors or younger, so Rosenberg could come back to a stronger team.
Still, this feels terrible and is the last thing this athletics program needs right now.

Yes, it's a disaster. Let's just hope that Rosenberg does in fact come back next year. In a similar situation a few years ago, women's hoops great player Judy Lomax did not, instead opted for the WNBA.
Rosenberg of course was likely never NBA-bound. (Which is not to disparage his talent.) I just wonder if he made his decision with the approval, anyway understanding, of Coach Smith.
Smith appears to be a very good coach, he might just will the team through this setback. That is what good coaches do...
So now I just read in Spectator that Meiko Lyles and Zah En Wezoh have also "left" the team. Any ideas why, anyone?
Let's get away from CU stupidity for a moment and look at League stupidity.
Rosenberg had to leave school because of an unique IVY rule that says you must complete your 4 years eligibility in the first 4 years you attend.
Therefore, no injury red-shirt; no 5th year seniors, no grad student players. So the kid loses a year of education just to play for us when he's healthy.
