Week 12 Picks

The spreads have been killing me, while my straight-up picks are getting better.

Last week I went 5-1 straight up, but a terrible 1-5 against the spread.

My record so far this season is now 45-16 straight up, (.737) and 27-31-1 ATS (.465)

On to this week’s games:

Dartmouth -7 vs. Brown

I like the Big Green to win this game by 8-10 points. But Brown will threaten for a good long time before faltering.

Yale -10 vs. Princeton

The Tigers are just losing more and more steam each week. The Elis know this is probably their last win of the season and it’s at home. Translation: Yale by 11+.

Harvard -25 at Penn

The Quakers are stuck in reverse. Harvard is in no mood to take it easy on Bagnoli and Murphy wants a win in Franklin Field.

Georgetown +28 at Fordham

With the Army game coming up the following week, I’m going to bet that the Rams will hold the appendectomy-recovering QB Michael Nebrich out for a good part of the game. That should keep the final score respectable for the Hoyas.

Villanova -23 vs. Albany

I think the Wildcats have a good shot at the FCS championship. They need to show it here.

Coastal Carolina -22 vs. Monmouth

Coastal Carolina Head Coach Joe Moglia is just about my dream choice for Columbia. So I’m putting my money where my mouth is.

I enjoy the weekly picks post the most, partly because of the Princeton thoughts but also because trying to parse Jake's writing to figure out if he actually means he's taking the points or not is highly entertaining.

What a finish to the season. Right now you have four teams in the mix. Assuming Dartmouth handles Brown in the cold, after this weekend that will be down to three (if Harvard loses) or two (if Harvard wins). And yeah, Harvard will probably win. Penn can be dangerous at home and their insecurity complex requires them to hate Harvard nearly as much as they hate Princeton, but the Crimson are impressive.

Princeton is capable of beating Yale but the odds don't look good. The offense has been off-sync this season (I guess the receiving corps was the key last year?), the defense has been worse, no one knows what is going on with Epperly, and they are playing Yale at home in their pseudo-homecoming-slash-final-100th-anniversary game for the Bowl. The Elis will badly want revenge for last year's utter humiliation at the hands of the Tigers. I'm nervous.

Still, either way you'll have a heck of a Game the following week as Yale tries to knock down Harvard, probably the only school that can. It could happen, meaning the Tigers and Elis are definitely playing for a chance at the title this weekend.

I'll try to attend the Cornell-Columbia drama. I wouldn't put points on this at all -- the streak could end. God knows the players will want it, and the massive Cornell Band won't be able to change the fact that the game is still in Manhattan. Of course, a victory would all but guarantee Mangurian's job for another year, but still, Go Lions.

My mistake, it's still three teams in the mix next weekend no matter what. Harvard can win it all, Dartmouth will probably have only one loss and hope to beat Princeton and get a Yale upset the following weekend, and whoever wins Princeton/Yale will be also hoping for a share. Let's have some fun with the odds:

Harvard wins the title outright - 70%
Harvard, Yale and Dartmouth share - 10%
Harvard and Yale share - 10%
Harvard and Dartmouth share - 5%
Harvard and Princeton share - 5%
