Down on the Farm

Columbia commit QB Hunter Petlansky was the big star in Central Catholic's 36-22 win over St. Mary's in last night's "Holy Bowl."

Another incoming QB, Matt Dame from Suncoast HS, threw for 381 yards and three TDs, but Suncoast lost 21-20 on a last second missed 30-yard field goal.

Incoming RB Tanner Thomas had 140 yards on 24 carries and two TDs in Farragut's big win over Bearden.

Incoming RB Alex Gibson scored the winning TD in overtime as Central Bucks East outlasted Pennridge, 16-10.

Jake, my concern with publicizing the senior year achievements of our top recruits is that we are making ourselves vulnerable to raids by rival coaches. Tony Reno comes to mind, and with the powerhouse recruits lined up for next year I would hate to see "unhooking" as it has happened to us in the past.

If a kid's disconnect from Columbia is somehow based on what happens on this blog, it will be great to see him go. Good luck to that powerhouse recruit.

Jake, what is your take on the vote by the players to name the three new captains? PS, I see that Washington has a new number, 4, which perhaps is an homage to another fifth year senior DE, #5, the great Marcellus Wiley. If Chad has the same sort of season that Marcellus had, we can shock some people.

Washington needs to be a man on a mission. If he becomes as feared as Wiley that will ramp things up for the D.

It is the secondary that concerns me most.
