How to Help

For the last few weeks, in the comments section here and on the VOY site, I’ve been getting battered by critics who say I’ve gone too far in my own criticisms of our football program in general and Head Coach Pete Mangurian and Athletic Director Dianne Murphy in particular.

Now some of the attacks on me have to be taken with a grain of salt since I have evidence that a significant amount are coming from employees of the athletic department and the football coaching staff. BUT that does not mean that I deny that there are legitimate fans/alums who aren’t happy with me right now and that they come to that conclusion honestly.

But I DO think those honest critics aren’t being entirely fair. Because this blog, (and the blog that started at a different address nine years ago), has been dominated by constructive thoughts on everything from recruiting to game-time management for almost a decade. The sheer percentage of positive information on this blog, even in the past year, far outweighs anything else you see here.

To that end, I AGAIN urge all of you to learn more about the CAEC.

A group of concerned and influential alumni has formed the Committee for Athletic Excellence at Columbia (CAEC - pronounced Kayak) with the objective of convincing the administration to bring in competent, independent outside consultants to review the entire athletic establishment, including intercollegiate team sports and the campus (so-called) fitness facilities. The assignment would be to make recommendations about improvements that could solve the obvious problems in both areas.  They are seeking members - not money (donations are voluntary).  Students, Alumni, Faculty and friends of the U are all welcome, although Princeton persons need not apply.  If you are interested take a look at their web site www.lion-sports.org/

There is no doubt in my mind that the football program and athletics in general at Columbia have been mismanaged for many decades. It’s time to do something about it.

Thank you, Jake, for your help here and also for your on-going support of CU athletics.

CAEC invites all of you to join. We are after answers, not scalps. We believe those answers can only come from smart experienced sports management people who areen't tied to CU. Because in 56 years CU has never solved these issues itself.
Let's work together.

It is great the alumni are taking a strong, vested interest in change for the better. Though, it should be added, the profile of the interloper on this site does not line up to be an administrative member of the athletic department. I tend to doubt he is an appointed spy either. No doubt many people inside and outside CU read this blog but I would bet few actively participate. There is little chance the professionals working in an administrative capacity or as coaches or anywhere in-between would orchestrate a deception on social media due to the consequences if discovered. This boils down to a lack of maturity on the part of the interloper as well as a complete lack of savvy with technology, oblivious to the reality his movements are tracked even though we all display as "anonymous". However, he has a hidden talent for theater. The level of disruption and invented personalities has extended for a long time (perhaps over a year?) and demonstrates OCD among other interesting psychological quirks.

So what this narrows down to is a bottom level, irrelevant member of the coaching staff thinking he is doing right in sticking up for Pete. I'm willing to bet Pete has no idea this kid is on social media trying to stealthy. Pete's going to find out though so the question is will this be a graceful exit for him or will the turd in the punch bowl receive a rude awakening?

Al,
You've done another 180. Glad to see you're back on your meds. Are Danny and I still on your secret agent list?

Hey gang

Let's not succumb to paranoia. It is what it is and everything here is out in the open anyway. The occasional troll is meaningless.

The main point here, on this particular thread, is CAEC, and if you are interested in joining up. Every one of you who does gives CAEC that much more weight in our relationship with CU. So we can all continue to bitch, or we can do something about it.

Mysterious "evidence" isn't worth even mentioning, let alone discussing.
I have absolutely nothing to do with the AD, person or entity, BTB.

The sierra canyon school web site does not have good pics but if you do an images search, it looks like it is a beverly hills 90210 type place. Google HQ is nothing like that. That place is in a humdrum office park, spruced up to be the exaggerated silicon valley startup x1000 it is. The best thing about Google is the food. You better have will power or you will overeat. If you don't mind being paid 20% below your market value because of the perks of working there (why would you ever have to leave if they give you your very own dorm room to sleep in and gym w/shower facilities of course, on site medical clinic, etc).

I agree with Big Dawg Forzani that the CAEC is the way to go, and I'm not bothered by silly trolls here, but I did get into a cat fight with one of the 1960s Columbia Bolsheviks who are bashing Jake on the Ivy Board. This particular over-aged "Occupy" guy was shrieking that Jake is "a Republican" and is whipping up dimwitted alums against the Admin and PM the way that "Fox News hosts" brainwash their followers.

In that fool's brain, this is about politics, not about normal alums who'd like to see a decent football game again in their lifetimes.
