Michael Nebrich takes off
There was good news and bad news coming out of this past weekend's games played by Columbia's non-conference opponents.
First the good news:
Villanova absolutely destroyed Fordham by a score of 50-6 late Saturday afternoon.
Suddenly, the Rams look a tiny bit vulnerable and one reason started to shine through by the end of the game. QB Michael Nebrich appears to still be suffering from an ACL injury that doesn't look fully healed. Nebrich without his mobility and as a running threat is a lot more beatable. 'Nova's scouts must have picked up on this issue after watching the St. Francis game a week before.
I'm not saying this means Columbia can beat Fordham in 12 days, but it gives the Lions a small opening. It also means Fordham's dreams of winning the FCS title look a lot more remote right now.
The Rams host Rhode Island this coming Saturday afternoon.
Now the bad news:
Week two opponent Albany looked very strong in a bug 19-0 upset over Central Connecticut State.
The Great Danes defense has looked impressive in its two wins so far this year,
The offense isn't spectacular, but they grind it out and eventually get scores. Their O-line is durable.
Suddenly, the week 2 game at Albany is looking tougher than ever.
Albany gets a bye this coming week, and then plays Rhode Island before hosting the Lions on 9/27.

Do you hear that Bronx cheer? That is the air coming out of Fordham's balloon.
I only watched 15 minutes of Albany vs CCSU. It was a painfully crappy game. Maybe the worst i have ever seen at any level. Could be weather was a factor or field conditions, I do not know. CCSU is a joke of a program. Bunch of fat guys. Albany did look very good on D.

According to the Fordham football blog, they are very worried about their QB. Last year his % was 74.5, Last two games under 50%
Evidently he had ACL surgery, but is also suffering from a torn meniscus. There is great debate amongst the Romans as to whether he should even play the next few games.
They are also super pissed at the game planning and the preparation by the team.
(Sound familiar?)
PS........read the article Jake forwards here in his post. Note how almost EVERYONE mentioned is from NJ. Unless they have under 2.0 GPAs in HS, we should have every one of them.
