Random Thought

Yale's offensive line looked great to me in that big win over Army, and the Eli offensive numbers speak for themselves through week 2.

The Yale O-line starters average 291 lbs.

Columbia O-line starters average 273 lbs. and not one of our O-lineman is more than 288 lbs.

Again, the AVERAGE Yale O-lineman is three pounds heavier than our heaviest O-lineman.

Yes, Tyler Varga is a great back. But when you have THREE RB's, (Varga, Khalil Keys, and Candler Rich), tearing up the turf you know the O-line has to be good.

We're coming to a gunfight with slingshots.

Yale does have a good OL, no question. They give their QB time and receivers time to finish routes. However, let's not kid ourselves. Varga is in a class by himself. If he was in an FBS program he would still be considered an elite back. He is impossible for one guy to bring down by himself. He doesn't just move the pile, he breaks the pile and gets into the secondary - and it does not matter a wink what the OL is doing to help him or not. So while Army was a great game and the Lehigh game was equally as awesome, both of those games were in doubt for the Elis. Both times they came up late with big points and they never would have stood a chance without Varga churning out first downs on his own. The other backs were nowhere near as relevant to any of their drives.

Where is Collin Breckinridge? Where is Isaiah Gross? Did Chris Schroer recover enough from last week's injury to be on the 2-deep? What was his injury?

How about Marcus Briscoe who was supposed to start last week??

Four years ago we had an OL that averaged well over 290 and it couldn't block the LittleSosters of the Poor.

Jake, who wins between #8 Thaxton and the opponents best WR? Rea vs Atwater and Pace vs Holuba? Molina vs Rohan?

I think it was Thaxton who fell when no one touched him against Albany. If he is on the best receiver then they will throw against his coverage all day.

Al that was #2 Bell that fell down not Thaxton. Same question to you. Who wins those individual battles?
