Week 9 Picks

Last week, I was 5-1 straight up  but just 3-3 again against the spread.

My overall record now is 32-11 straight up and 21-20-1 ATS.

This week’s games:

Princeton +6 vs. Harvard

I think Princeton has just enough to beat the Crimson again, especially at home.

Yale -17 vs. Penn

Quakers looked bad to me last week against the much worse Lions. Last week, the Quakers were the prettiest horse in the glue factory. This week, they’ll be nags.

Brown -11 ½ vs. Cornell

I don’t like the Big Red on the road at all. Brown is getting its act together for the most part. The results will be rough for the Big Red.

Fordham -16 at Lehigh

The Rams have kicked it back into high gear, while Lehigh is still merging into the right lane. Fordham should win by 17-20.

Monmouth -6 at Presbyterian

The Hawks should be fresh and ready after the week off.

Colgate +6 ½ at Albany

Albany surprised me with their big win last week, but I still don’t think they’re a full TD better than Colgate. I like Colgate to win.

Presbyterian has the most antiquated name in college sports. "The Blue Hose" was used in place of "stockings" to describe their blue socks.

Actually Presbyterian is a pretty decent team, beating Furman, Charleston Southern, Western Carolina this season and playing several DI schools. Monmouth has taken a step up this year but expect The Blue Hose to give them a game.

Colgate and Albany is a tough battle. Has the makings of a playoff game.

Fordham should dispatch Lehigh by several TDs.

Brown needs to crush Cornell to get their confidence going. They still have a shot at placing well in the conference.

Penn is definitely prime pickings for a serious beatdown but Yale's D cannot stop anyone.

H vs P should be a great game.

Dartmouth by 40.

You're picking Princeton over Harvard? Good to hear, but I'm chewing my fingernails off, not at all feeling very confident about that game. Tigers have been flaky this year and unlike other teams I don't see Harvard giving them a break if they have another slow start or slippery hands.

The Harvard game also has another angle, which is that it is always held during Princeton fall recess. This is not a bad thing when the game is in Cambridge, as extra numbers of Princeton students will attend if traveling to the area. But the Princeton campus itself will be completely deserted by Saturday, leaving an empty student section and low energy for such a big game. That home advantage won't be nearly what you think it is.
