Coen's Worries

Andy Coen

Week four opponent Lehigh’s Head Coach Andy Coen is talking more about talking more about why he’s wary of week two opponent Monmouth.

One thing Coen highlights is the high number of FBS transfers on the Monmouth roster, including linebacker Gary Oneukwusi from Temple and cornerback Tevrin Brandon from UConn.

The Hawks and the Mountain Hawks kickoff their game tomorrow at 1pm.

Week one opponent Fordham is at Temple also at 1pm tomorrow. The game will be available on ESPN3.

I'm just worried about Fordham. If we beat them, then the sky is the limit within the League. They've already knocked off major schools such as URI and Villanova. I can envision Nottingham pick a[part defenses all day long! I pray that the football Gods shine on us!!!

However, IF we lose, please, please, don't make excuses like "...it's our 1st game", "the other teams have played three games already", "It's only Pete's 11th game...", etc.. Look, the other Ivies have to contend with the same types of schedules. The one thing that this Blog does well is find an abundance of excuses, so PLEASE no more excuses.

Rora Lions against Fordham!

I disagree with the criticism of Jake. Fordham will be playing its fourth game and we'll be playing our first. It's a huge disadvantage for the Ivy teams and fair for him to point that out.

Most coaches will tell you teams improve the most between the first and second games.

I try to amass a solid pre-season reserve of excuses but even so, I almost ran out by the time of last year's Harvard Debacle. Thank God, at the last moment I discovered that "Hurricane Sandy" excuse. Anyone can blame the weather on Game Day for a loss but it takes real football savvy to blame the weather five days earlier.

Ivies used to open within the league precisely to avoid that disadvantage. Week one for the Lions was Harvard, if memory serves. Was it the 80's/90's?

The switch to starting out of conference came in 2000.

As for excuses, Parcells said it best:
You are only as good as your record says you are
