Trailing 17-10 to start the second half in the week nine
game against Cornell, the Lions looked a little lost coming out of halftime.
After recovering a Big Red Fumble on the first possession of
the quarter, Columbia’s offense stalled inside the Cornell 10 and then Luke Eddy missed a short FG.
On Cornell’s second possession of the half, the Big Red got
a pair of 1st downs before the drive fizzled, but an excellent punt
by Sam Wood pushed the Lions all the way back to their 14.
That set the stage for the single best moment for Columbia
football in 2012.
On the first play, Marcorus
Garrett took the hand off and took off to his left and never stopped. 86
yards later he was in the end zone with the tying TD.
The score was especially gratifying after a few of Garrett’s
other 50+ yard runs had fallen short of
the goal.
And this TD was about to set off a fierce offensive chain
reaction unlike anything any Columbia team has put together in years.
