Mangurian Radio Spot

Head Coach Pete Mangurian will be a guest on the Kevin Callahan Monmouth football radio show tonight at 7pm.

I wonder if he'll take any questions about CU's pass protection?

Josh Martin was waived this afternoon, hopefully another team will claim him off waivers. If not I would think he'll get a shot on a practice squad.

Coach M a no show on interview.

No show on the interview and he was a no show on the sidelines last week.

Can I propose a BLOG tent party for homecoming? OldLion, just secure a space for us and we can all meet Jake thank him, and vent. We must invite Dianne and her minions as well. Name tags with online names will suffice. I'll be "Anonymous" :0) we can contact Jake with who can bring what... I'll chip in drinks (non-alcoholic)...

Dianne has a form response to all emails regarding the fiasco of keeping Fordham on the schedule. I got it, and so did one of my classmates.

What is the kist of it? Maybe let jake post? No tent homecoming tent OldLion?

Anonymous said...

No, Alex Oberwenger or Darlene Camacho has a form response to the emails. Murphy doesn't read a damn thing from fans unless they've given at least six figures.

That not true what you said about Ms. Murphy not reading "a damn thing from fans unless they've given at least six figures." She has read and responded to several of my e-mails and has addressed my questions and complaints directly. And my only contributions have been of a spiritually supportive nature.

I think the poster above meant to write, "What is the gist of it?" Any word on that, Jake or anybody?

frustrations galore!! after one, whole complete game but missing after last year's winS. Pea shooters stash your weapons, please.

That's fine Pete was a no show. He has nothing of value to say anyway. He is completely void of ideas, as evidenced by having a year to consider a game plan facing a high powered opponent on opening day. He's a washout, lame duck.

If Ed Argast is still OL coach under Pete's replacement then I will crap in my pants.

Gentlemen, if Pete's policy of not dressing all the players for home games still stands this year, then he's a moron plain and simple! These kids get up at 5:00 am to practice and work as a team (win or lose). It is embarrassing seeing upperclassmen in the stands during game day (like last year). And why? Because we were told that he can manage the sidelines better. Seriously??? How could it possibly be manages any worse? The hypocracy is that he "allows" them to dress for homecoming, and then just the seniors for "Senior Day ". Does anybody else see how wrong this is? Why does the Hot Dog Committee and the AD allow this to go on? I KNOW that they are both aware of this parental and alumni concern. If you can't get wins, then just do the little things right please.

OldLion, how's the Blog tent for homecoming coming along?

Maybe Coach M should call the team "drug addicted losers." Perhaps that will do the trick. :)

Jake,
Please remove the previous blogger's comment about what Coach M should call our players. It is inappropriate and uncalled for. I know many of these players. They give up everything to dedicate themselves to their studies and football. They are exceptional hard working young men who are doing their best to represent Columbia. Many of these families have incurred serious debt to send their sons to Columbia. The coaches are also doing their best to win games. I understand the frustration many fans feel. However, these players deserve our respect and complete support. Please, no negative comments. These comments are not helpful.
Go Lions!

To Anonymous who wrote that "drug addicted losers" is what Coach M should call the team. My son is on this team and a senior. Neither he nor his suite mates are drug addicted losers nor are any of the other players to my knowledge.

A smiley face at the end of the comment does nothing other than to show that you are 1) someone that uses their keyboard for other than useful keystrokes; 2) have nothing constructive to add to this blog; 3) do not care about how others may interpret your post; and 4) hopefully will end up working for one of the players so they may put you on the unemployment line.

Do you think carrying a full class load and setting an alarm clock for 4:00am is something a drug addicted loser would do? Many of the seniors have already accepted positions post graduation which shows that they have had the the drive and have been willing to work very hard in both areas. Don't equate losing with a lack of effort in all cases.

These young men deserve better, and you deserve to read all those that will criticize your posting.

These young men DO NOT need nor want anything from you. They are far better than are you.

Lighten up guys- it was just a joke. Obviously when Coach Garrett tried the tactic, it didn't go over well. The team lost the next nine games and Garrett was fired. Whatever does work to get the team back on track, calling them what Garrett did isn't the answer.

Apologies to all!

Some of the negative comments and coach bashing have gotten out of hand. These young men and their parents deserve our support. Let's stop the grousing about the coaches. And get behind the players.

Gentlemen, I agree with oldloin. These negative comments are coming from probably one or two people who have a bone to pick with Murphy or Mangurian. Lets get behind the players and coaches. If the coaches answered all of your questions and phone calls and every other little thing you want to know about the program, how can they do their job of trying to turn this team around? Go Loins!!!

parent of player who is very happy with Coach Mangurian

oldlion said...

Thanks parent of player. "Old Loin" is closer to the truth than I would like! In any event, Imwas happy to read an upbeat story in today's Spec about getting behind the team.

As a parent I am ashamed that I have even been following this blog...after 3 three years I am done and when I turn off the computer today I will not log on anymore...It has gotten completely out of hand...shame on a certain few of you. Where do you think Columbia's reputation really stems from? Joke or no joke. GROW UP!

Neila said...

The above reference to "drug addicted losers" will only make sense to those with a 25 year history of Lions football. Though I did not post it, I am sure (at least hoping) it was meant as a joke..from an historic quote from the '80's, not a reflection or judgement on today's players.

Looking forward to cheering them on Saturday. Go Lions!

Jake said...

Neila is correct, the poster was making a joke reference to an actual comment by Head Coach Jim Garrett in 1985. It wasn't directed in any way at the players.

Anonymous said...

Yes, it was a joke. I was the one who made the comment. Although I did not attend Columbia, I'm a longtime supporter of the Lions and Jake is a good friend. For those who did not understand the reference, feel free to google "drug addicted losers" and "jim Garrett." Again, I feel badly that the joke was not well-received, and hope that a Lion victory on Saturday helps us forget about it.

No bone to pick with Pete or Dianne, other than they don't listen and they both lose (outside of women's archery, track and baseball)... Fact, not opinion.

Anonymous said...

Poster above forgot winning teams in tennis, golf, swimming, national individual 3rd place finisher in wrestling, and I think there are others (anyone?).

to the blogger who referenced the hot dog committee, you should be ashamed of yourself. the hot dog committee is now the nathan's hot dog committee.

If only Garrett were more articulate during his rant about his team's second half melt-down. He meant to say the players were addicted to losing, like a drug. People have been expressing that or a similar sentiment about Lions fooball for years. Most recently, we've used the more PC "culture of losing" terminology. How else does one explain an attempted (and fumbled) fair catch on the one yard line? Or an all-Ivy, senior tackle's false start within the five yard line on the go-ahead drive with less than two minutes left? That CU players repeat these obvious gaffs tear in and year out is a mystery that has defied solution for decades. But I don't think Garrett, or anyone lose, is saying or has said CU football players are drug addicts. That's just silly. Here's hoping the team can put Fordham out of mind and get back to creating their own, new history at Baker-Wien-Kraft.

Please footnote all blog jokes from now on. Just consider it the Columbia scholarly approach to humor.

Good advice! I should have realized that some new fans (parents) may not have the historical knowledge that the old-timers possess. Completely understandable that they'd take offense just by reading the quote in isolation. Lesson learned!!! Again, very, very sorry to all!!!
