After Josh Martin’s
brutal sack of Cornell QB Jeff Mathews, the Lion offense suddenly went into a
tailspin that erased all the team’s momentum in a flash.
Actually on the possession before the big sack, Columbia QB Sean Brackett had thrown an
interception, and after a three-and-out following the sack the Big Red got a
field goal to take a 10-7 lead.
On the first play from scrimmage after the FG, Brackett
threw another pick that was returned
to the Lion six.
Two Luke Hagy runs later, it was 17-7 Cornell with 55
seconds left in the half.
Now down by 10 and reeling from two rapid fire
interceptions, Brackett and Lions looked like they were about to collapse.
But looks can be deceiving…
