Moment #13: Mathews’ Pretty Play

 Luke Tasker in 2011

After Will Patterson’s sack ended Cornell’s first drive of the day, the Lions went three and out on their ensuing possession and had to punt the ball back to QB Jeff Mathews and the Big Red.

Freshman Luke Hagy did the heavy lifting at the beginning of the drive, running and catching passes on each play of the march to set up  a 3rd and one at the Columbia 33.

On that play, Cornell completely faked out the Lion defense into thinking they would run. The deception left Mathews with eons of time to find a wide open Luke Tasker open in the south end zone for a 33 yard TD pass.

The week nine game at Wien Stadium was now tied at 7-7, but it would be the last time all day that Mathews would have significant time to throw.
