Moment #3: Settling for Another 3
If there's one thing Columbia needs to improve on for 2013, it's the very low number of TD's the Lions scored last year. The total was just 15 for the season.
That problem reared its ugly head in the early stages of the Brown game when just about every other aspect of the CU attack was working.
Already leading 3-0 late in the 1st quarter, the Columbia defense got a virtual sack of Bear QB Patrick Donelly by forcing an intentional grounding at the Brown 29.
That pushed the Bears back to their 19 and they eventually punted and set the Lion offense up at the Brown 45 to start the ensuing possession.
The big play on the drive was a 21 yard rush by Marcorus Garrett, who at that point seemed well on his way to hitting 1,000 yards for the season.
But two plays later, a Sean Brackett run on 3rd and three from the Bear 11 resulted in a two yard loss and Columbia had to settle for another Luke Eddy FG and a 6-0 lead.
CU's strong start had only produced a small lead, and it was only about to last for another three minutes.
