Dartmouth’s two deeps have been released and they don’t have too many surprises. But fans will most
likely note that the once very highly touted QB Cole Marcoux is getting the
start… at tight end. And he’s getting that start over Dean Bakes, who many
thought was the definite front runner.
Another highlight is sophomore AJ Zuttah getting the start
at nose guard. He’s looking like he could be a very special player.
This means Brown is the only Ivy team yet to release its two
deeps. Is there a Phish concert or something in Providence that’s slowing
things down up there?

Our Story
As far as our two deeps, I’d say about 70% to 75% of the
info there is true. I question the accuracy of some of the secondary players
listed, and the WR’s and DL’s also seem a bit iffy.
Whatever advantage the coaches think they’re getting by not
listing fully accurate two deeps is beyond me. I sure hope it works.
I am relieved that no funny business was connected to naming
Brett Nottingham as the starting QB.
But again, the starting team that actually goes out onto the
field Saturday will differ a bit from what we see in the release.

Rankings
Fordham’s game notes are out and the only tweak from last week is that star LB Stephen
Hodge may not start because of a probable injury. Hodge is listed as the “OR”
co-starter with freshman George Dawson.
Fordham is ranked as #21 in the oficials FCS poll, but the Dunkel Index puts them at #37. That’s still 71 spots ahead of Columbia, but we’ll
take it.

Jake — obviously, the proof will be in the pudding on Saturday. But what evidence do you have to announce that over 25% of the two-deep is not accurate?
I would also like to hear some facts about that statement.

What evidence? Every two deep Columbia has released since 2006 has only been about 80% accurate at best. It's the way we, and a lot of other programs, operate these days.
Also, based on Saturday's scrimmage, there are at least two starters that weren't even listed on the two deep at all. This is typical. Not really anything to get too upset about, but important to note.
This has nothing to do with "Melodrama." It's about accuracy. In other words, before anyone gets too excited or angry about the two deep info, one MUST take this info with a grain of salt. Anyone who has covered Ivy football for even a few years knows this to be true.
I think it's fair to point out that the two-deeps aren't going to be perfectly accurate. After all, they're probably based on information from the first day of practice for that week — I would imagine that injuries and practice performance do result in some switch-arounds as the week goes along.
I think, however, it is unfair to assert that the coaches are intentionally not listing accurate two-deeps. You're right, it serves them no purpose! We are drawing inferences based on a tiny number of data points, Saturday's scrimmage being only one of dozens of practices.
I have no evidence by which to assume that bad intent is more likely than injuries and practice performance to account for changes in the two-deep.
... or laziness. With Columbia sports information, laziness is always the most likely explanation.
If teams don't play games with the two deep, why does Brown show only Seniors in their starting offense? I don't believe it.
Maybe the coaches just don't think the published two-deep is worth much of their attention or effort?
Last year we showed on our two deep as our second running back a freshman whose name escapes me. I don't think he ever got into a single game and am not sure if he even dressed. There were at least four RBs who played in front of him (he is no longer at Columbia, I believe), yet he was listed in the two deep for some weeks.
Boy I could never ever call these or any coaches LAZY! Jake I think you crossed a line there and should apologize. These guys get up before dawn and certainly go to bed very late and don't stop in between. Whatever reason that the two deep is incorrect, if it is even incorrect, it isn't because of laziness. Maybe lack of interest since it serves almost no meaning in the overall scheme of things except allow you all to question.

I don't see how you could interpret "Columbia sports information" as being the coaches... unless you work for Columbia sports information and you're trying to deflect.
I can't tell who is new here and who is not, but if anyone who isn't new has been paying attention, the two-deeps have been 20-25% inaccurate every week for at least 7 years. I had to deal with this every week when I was calling the games with Jerry Recco. Early each game day, we had to pencil in the REAL starters that the coaches told Jerry about into our starting lining info. The coaches are fooling a bit with the two deeps for several reasons, and maybe it works or maybe it doesn't. It seems like a waste of time to me, but perhaps it motivates some players. The point is you HAVE to take the two-deeps with a grain of salt.
One thing about this blog. You don't let the facts mess up a good story.No wonder no one tells you anything, you sound like a bunch spoiled little children. I guess thats what losing does to you.

Excellent Dalen Cuff interview of Coach M on the AD website. He was effusive about #12 as both a great talent and a real,leader who has been accepted by his teammates. He is pleased with the improvement in team speed. He doesn't believe in not playing young players. He emphasized the importance this Saturday of withstanding the initial emotional energy of Fordham and settling down. I liked what I heard.
