Moment #16: Running it Up

Tim Murphy put in his backups, but kept the aggressive play calling going

The final stages of indignity of the week eight loss at Harvard began with 14:50 left in the 3rd quarter and the Crimson already ahead 42-0.

That's when Harvard decided to make the 2nd half about running up the score.

The Crimson took over for their first possession of the half at their own 31.

Harvard then proceeded to go on an 11 play drive that included six passes and ended in a TD and a 48-0 Crimson lead.

Three more TD's later, Harvard had its 69-0 win, the worst rout in Ivy League history.

I'm not sure if Coach Tim Murphy is proud of this win.

But I do know that he couldn't carry over even one point to the following week when the Crimson lost to Penn, 30-21, and lost their chance for an Ivy title.

Murphy can't lose enough. He wanted to rub it in. I hope we can return the favor.

Murphy and Mangurian have a history from Mangurians days at Cornell

Mangurian beat Murphy two out of three at Cornell. Is that the history?

Was Murphy wrong? Absolutely, no question! However, Mangurian put a substandard product on the field and he was out-coached.

Our lions just came off a devastating storm that rocked NYC. I believe their emotions and hearts were somewhere else. Substandard product is just plain wrong, these our fine young men not a product.

Both of those Cornell wins were come from behind. The last one was when Murphy had a 28-0 lead at halftime at Harvard! That was Mangurians 3rd year, out coached?

In the grand scheme of things who do you think handled that game better, Murphy or Mangurian? Think about the next game each team played.

Among the Ivy coaches with tenure of three years or more Murphy ranks third, behind Bags and Estes. Murphy does lees with more. The opposite is true with the other two.

Anonymous has a great point. Attitude is very important.

Look, I LOVE the Lions! I played for three coaches there (Frosh included), however, it was a 69-0 loss! Note, a record setting loss! You guys are trying to find a silver lining by saying "look at the following game..."? FYI, the storm "Sandy" devastated the entire East Coast and several of Harvard's players are fronm the Jersey shore; so they were "upset" as well. Also, Murphy has the most rings! Hands down, the BEST coach in the league is Estes - who does more with less (talent and funding). I'm just sick of losing and making (finding) excuses.
