Fordham's Sam Ajala makes the winning TD catch
Now that Fordham has defeated the FBS Temple Owls, there can no longer be any doubt that Columbia is opening its season against an extremely formidable opponent.
The Ram offense is particularly impressive and the Lion coaches definitely have their work cut out for them devising a plan to somehow keep it in check.
To top it all off, this coming Saturday will be Homecoming on Rose Hill.
Now in its fourth season of allowing athletic scholarships for football, the Fordham program has clearly reached the level where it wanted to be all along.
It's a trial by fire, but we'll at least know that if Columbia wins we have a very good team this year.
The other game of note yesterday for Lion fans took place at Monmouth, where week four opponent Lehigh found a way to beat week two opponent Monmouth by a 28-25 score.
Of concern there was the fact that both starting running backs for each team had monster games, but that also should give confidence to Marcorus Garrett and the entire Columbia running attack.

ESPN3 has Fordham game replay.
Jake, this is not to say that we cannot win or prepare an excuse for a "moral victory"; but,I think there is a 14 point advantage for a team which is playing it's forth game of the season against a team playing it's first.

A few points. First, we have film on three of their games. We know their tendencies. They have zilch on us, and on Nottingham. Second, if they are so much better than last year, is it because they now have a healthy decent QB? Third, They need to be worried about our passing game. Fourth, I expect to see us play very well.
I cannot believe we are already giving pre-game excuses??? A previous contributor cautioned against the post-game excuses, so this is a new one for the Blog! Yes, Fordham has played 3 games. Yes, they’ve worked out issues that they may have encountered. And yes, we’re playing on Fordham’s home field. The bottom line here is that the better prepared team will win! Remember have THREE Division-I transfers on our team (Chilress, Nottingham and Wannamaker - all in key positions on the field). They should be difference-makers so no excuses! BTW ALL of the other Ivies have to encounter the same challenges to open up the season. Roar Lions!
Wannamaker was a FCS transfer. Childress was a walk-on at Texas A&M given a pot only because of his dad's status as an Aggie legend. Not really difference makers. As for Nottingham, the fact he hasn't taken a snap in a meaningful game situation in 3 years should temper expectations for next week....if he is the starter.
The only people making excuses are the ones with nothing to do with the outcome.
Nottingham should be ready to go. He had all the tools, and then some, coming out of high school.
Last week I watched Peyton Manning throw seven touchdown passes (tying a NFL record shared in part by Sid Luckman)
after four or five neck surgeries and sitting out a whole year. Today I saw Peyton lead the Broncos over the Giants.
Nottingham reminds me of Manning.
Wow! I know people here haveva man crush on a kid they've never seen playva game but Peyton Manning? Way to set the kid up to fail the first time he's picked off next week.
It's official, we've gone CRAZY on this Blog! A Nottingham and Manning analogy? And once again touting his HS achievments. Seriously? Get real!
Let's hope that we are being taken for granted by the Fordham. Rain will neutralize the field for us, so let's pray for showers (and for parkas for the kids).
