Shad Sommers
When it comes to blocked kicks, the Lions didn’t seem to get
too many of them going their way in the Norries
Wilson era.
But in the very first game of Head Coach Pete Mangurian’s tenure, that turned
around as Wells Childress blocked a
Marist PAT attempt the ended up being the difference in the 10-9 Columbia win.
In week five, Luke
Eddy had a very long FG attempt blocked at Penn but the following week
things turned around again.
On Dartmouth’s opening possession of the 2nd
half, two personal foul penalties against the Lions in the span of just three
plays got the Big Green in business.
But when the drive fizzled at the CU eight, it looked like
the game was as good as tied. But Shad
Sommers got his hand on the ball and Columbia held on to its 10-7 lead.
Sommers had a quietly solid season in his final year with
the Lions, and his block in this Homecoming game against Dartmouth was
definitely a highlight.
