It may be 32 more days until the first game of the 2013 season kicks off at Fordham, but with the football team reporting back to campus today to start training camp, this is the real beginning of the season in the most important way.
It's too bad, the very hot and humid weather is back for this first week of practice, (and longtime Northwestern and Minnesota Vikings fans should know what I mean about weather concerns), but we're still thankfully not talking about 90 degree temperatures either.
Today is when the battles for the starting slots really begin.
Today is when the coaches get their best good look at all in the incoming freshmen.
Today is when we find out who really wants to play, and who is just here to skate by.
Today is more than a week before the other students come to campus, and 99% of them will be unaware of the extreme efforts that have already been made by these players in Columbia's name.
