Patriot Games

The Ivy League Football Media Day is still five days away, but the Patriot League held its event yesterday and here’s how the preseason poll came out:

1) Colgate
2) Lehigh
3) Holy Cross
4) Lafayette
5) Georgetown
6) Bucknell

So where would Fordham, which is still officially not a full member of the Patriot League until next year, come out in this poll if it were allowed to participate?

I say probably 2nd ahead of Lehigh. The Rams have a massive amount of super-talented returning players. Luckily for all their opponents, their QB is not exactly one of them. Ryan Higgins is gone, and UConn transfer Michael Nebrich was "all that" in limited duty last season. Other wise, this team is as good as Colgate.

So that means that since Columbia is playing Fordham and Lehigh, you can really argue that the Lions are taking on two of the best teams the Patriot League universe has to offer in 2013.

It seems typical that the Lions seem to have ended their series with Bucknell and Lafayette even as those programs are in bit of a downturn.

And why Columbia never scheduled another game against Georgetown after beating the Hoyas in 2006 is still a mystery.

Columbia is finding out what Dartmouth went through in the 2000s, playing annual games against Colgate and Holy Cross when those guys were always in the top 3 of the PL.

Agree that Columbia should reach out to Georgetown more.

They were supposed to play Georgetown 2 years ago but for some reason Sacred Heart took their place on the schedule.
