For as long as I can remember, the “headline” out of the Ivy
football media day has “parity”… and I’m getting a little tired of it.
That's because the Ivies are going through their longest-ever
period of non-parity since the formation of the league in 1956.
Harvard and Penn have won or shared the league title every
year since 2000 except for 2005 and 2006.
The dominance of those two programs has lasted longer than
the Dartmouth and Yale dynasties of the early days of the league and then some.
Only Brown has been able to break into the party with any
regularity… which is why if any team not named “Harvard, Penn, or Brown” cracks
the top three this season, it has to be considered an upset.
Penn Transfer
If you were surprised that Penn hadn’t yet become involved
in the transfer craze in Ivy League football, then you were right to feel that
way.
The Quakers have added a former all state high school player
from Iowa who has transferred from Duke.
Ben Challgren is 6-1, 235 pound fullback… we’ll see if he
becomes a factor.
Penn has a good history of successful transfers from Duke,
as QB Matt Rader came over from the Blue Devil program in 1997 and led Penn to
the 1998 Ivy title.
Fordham Latest
Continuing our online scouting of our already-in-training
camp opponents, we have this report in from Fordham camp.
One interesting tidbit at the end of that report: Fordham’s
wide receivers coach has quit or been fired… or just left the team.
Monmouth Coach’s Videos
On the Monmouth football site there are lots of regular reports from the Hawks camp
including extensive face time with the Head Coach Kevin Callahan.

Based upon our head to head experience Harvard seems to get better players than Penn, yet Bags usually out coaches Murphy. In fact, as far as parity, we have lost the last few Penn games by seemingly being out coached by Bags, or by the fact that Bags has all of the refs in this league scared of him. He always,and I mean always , gets the calls.
The report also mentions two players who have left the Fordham team and they look pretty good. Khouri is an all-state linebacker, see here:

I doubt we'd want to touch those guys with a 10-foot pole even if they are academically eligible. BUT... stranger things have happened.
